Srinagar: Police on Wednesday arrested four people, including a cop and a retired soldier over the rape of a minor in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
According to a police spokesperson, a written complaint was filed by an individual at the police station Qazigund alleging that her daughter was raped by three persons at Bonigam Qazigund with the help of a woman of Damjen area. He said that the offence as per the complainant surfaced during the course of a medical examination where she was found pregnant.
“On the receipt of the complaint, a case FIR No. 61/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation was initiated,” the police spokesperson said.
During the course of investigation, he said, all the accused persons involved in the offence were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
The accused have been identified as Kifayat Ahmad Malik of Yaripora, Mohammad Ahsan Mir of Parigam, Aejaz Ahmad Shah of Devsar and their woman accomplice Shabrooza of Damjen. Malik is said to be a policeman while Mir a retired army man.
Divulging more details about the case, the police spokesperson said that during investigation, it surfaced that the accused policeman was not on duty when the offence was committed neither it had been committed inside police premises.
“Pertinently, in addition to criminal proceedings, departmental proceedings have also been initiated against him,” he said.
The police spokesperson assured the people that strict action will be taken against offenders, regardless of their position or placement.
“Further investigation into the matter in going on,” he added.
