Srinagar: At least 89 travellers were among 442 new cases of coronavirus reported in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, while the deadly infection also claimed two more lives, taking the total death count across the Union Territory to 2010.
Among the new cases of Covid-19, Kashmir Valley reported 280, while in Jammu division 162 people tested positive for the virus, taking the number of people infected by the virus in J&K to 133454, an official said Monday.
Giving the district-wide details, the official said, Srinagar reported 141, Baramulla 47, Budgam 19, Pulwama 2, Kupwara 21, Anantnag 9, Bandipora 11, Ganderbal 6, Kulgam 21, Shopian 3, Jammu 97, Udhampur 14, Rajouri 5, Kathua 8, Samba 2, Kishtwar 1, Poonch 6, and Reasi 29 fresh cases of coronavirus.
About the fatalities reported Monday, the officials said that the victims included a 60-year-old man from Kanjigund and a 70-year-old man from Dedipora, both places in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. Their death took the overall fatality count due to covid-19 in J&K to 2010—741 in Jammu and 1269 in Kashmir.
Moreover, they said, 241 more patients have recovered—60 from Jammu Division and 181 from Kashmir Division, taking the number of people who have recovered so far 127290.
There are 4154 active cases—1024 in Jammu and 3130 in Kashmir.
Gujarati Tourist Dies Of Covid-19
A 60-year-old tourist from Gujarat died due to Covid-19 at a hospital here, officials said on Monday.
They said that the tourist was admitted on 2nd April at CD Hospital after testing positive. While he had tested negative one day prior at Airport.
Confirming the death, a doctor at the hospital said that the tourist was suffering from “severe covid-19 Pneumonia” and died on Sunday, reports said.
Interestingly, a tourist like the one from Pune Maharashtra who died last week had tested negative for the covid-19 at the Srinagar airport on arrival to Valley.
A few tourists are already admitted to CD hospital as well as Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital, two of the exclusive facilities for the management of covid-19 patients here, officials said.
Sources in these exclusive health facilities said that most of these tourists have tested negative at the airport and those who arrived by road were reportedly not even tested en-route.
“Some tourists have arrived by road and told hospital authorities that they were not tested anywhere en-route,” they said, raising a question about the administration’s concerns about stemming the spread of the covid-19 at a time when it’s rapidly spreading in India and elsewhere. The spread has already forced the closure of schools in Jammu and Kashmir. There is also the threat of the spread of new variants, already found in at least five patients in Jammu.
