Srinagar: The traders involved in the trading of cars on Tuesday asked the government to reconsider the decision that demands the reregistration of vehicles bearing non-local registration numbers.
The traders held a protest demonstration in Karanagar Srinagar and said that the government circular was impacting their businesses. The traders demanded that their trade be protected.
An order issued by the Regional Transport Officer on Monday has created a sense of insecurity among car dealers.
Protesting under the banner of Kashmir Economic Alliance, the car dealers said that the vehicles were being confiscated, and those who had bought vehicles from the car dealers were returning them due to which their business is at stake.
Addressing a press conference after the protest, Kashmir Economic Alliance co-chairman Farooq Ahmed Dar said that if the government was taking steps to curb crime then they cannot interfere, but the jobs of those involved in the business must be protected.
He said that the taxes of vehicles exported to the valley from outside the states have already been paid, and they have to go through the initial stages again during their re-registration.
He said that there was a lot of confusion in this regard and asked the concerned authorities to launch an awareness campaign to provide information to the car buyers in other states.
Dar said that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities. (CNS)
