Srinagar- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and most mainstream political parties on Monday condemned the killing of a Municipal Councilor and a policeman by militants in Sopore.
“I strongly condemn the killings of Municipal Councillor & police personnel by Terrorists at Sopore. Perpetrators of this heinous act of violence will be brought to justice very soon. Heartfelt condolences to bereaved families of martyrs & prayers for eternal peace to departed souls,” Office of J&K LG tweeted.
Besides LG, several mainstream leaders also condemned the killings and urged police to nab the assailants.
National Conference Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, and Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday condemned attack.
They while condemning the attack in unequivocal terms said “brutality has no place in any emancipated society.”
“The duo termed the incident unfortunate and urged the police to investigate the case and nab the culprits behind the attack. The duo also expressed unison with the bereaved families and prayed for fortitude to them and peace for the deceased,” reads a party statement issued here.
In a statement, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) expressed grief over the loss of precious lives and said such “mindless and shameful acts are not acceptable, deserve strong condemnation from every section of the society.”
“JKPCC conveyed deepest condolences to family of martyred councilor and special police officer and prayed for eternal peace to departed souls and recovery of injured,” a party statement said, adding, “JKPCC has also urged the Govt to take immediate effective measures to contain such inhuman and cowardice incidents.”
CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami termed the killings as inhuman and barbaric.
In a statement, he said that violence in any form is condemnable and there is a need to put an immediate end to these civilian killings. “The CPI (M) leader expressed sympathy with the bereaved families.”
The BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit also condemned the attack, saying the party activists cannot be cowed down by such “cowardly acts”.
