Srinagar: A municipal councillor injured in a militant attack in Sopore town on Monday, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital here on Tuesday, taking the number of fatalities in the broad-daylight attack to three, reports said Tuesday.
Officials told Kashmir Observer that the injured councillor Shams-ud-Din succumbed to his injuries at the SMHS hospital here where he was being treated after Monday’smilitant attack.
“He had received a bullet in his abdomen. He was put on life support system, however around 4:30 am today, he breathed his last,” Medical Superintendent, SMHS hospital, Dr Nazir Choudhary told Kashmir Observer.
BJP councillor Reyaz Ahmad Peer of Ningli and SPO Shafqat Nazir of Mundji were killed after militants opened fire upon them near the sub-district hospital Sopore on Monday afternoon. Shams-ud-Din, who was critically injured in the surprise militant attack, was taken to the district hospital Sopore for treatment. However, the doctors there referred him to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for advanced treatment.
According to a police spokesperson, Lashkar-e-Taiba militants, including a foreigner carried out the attack. The police identified one of the attackers as Mudasir Pandit.
“However, further investigations are rigorously going on. IGP Kashmir also took serious note of the poor and inappropriate retaliation by the PSOs of protected persons present on spot and directed SSP Sopore to put four PSOs under suspension,” a police spokesperson said Monday.
