SRINAGAR: At least 34 children were injured when a bus ferrying them met with an accident in Budgam district, a police spokesman said Saturday
He said school bus which was ferrying children for an excursion turned turtle in Tangnar in Khansahab.
The spokesman said 34 children from Markazi Fallahi Khawateen (Nari Niketan) who were on way back from Doodh Pathri to Kupwara were injured.
All the injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital Khansahab where from two of them were shifted to Bone and Joints Hospital and five to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital here in Srinagar, the police spokesman said.
Police have registered a case in this regard, he added.
2 cousins dead in mishap
Meanwhile in a fatal road accident, two cousins lost their lives while the wife of one of the deceased was battling for life in a local hospital, police sources said.
Eyewitnesses said that a private vehicle (Esteem- DL3C-AU-0653) on way from Delhi to Srinagar collided with a speedy truck (JK01A-3594) coming from the opposite direction on Srinagar-Jammu highway near Chachkoot Awantipore.
The driver of the Esteem died on the spot while his cousin succumbed to his injuries at SMHS hospital Srinagar. A police official said that deceased were cousin brothers. He identified them as Shabir Ahmed Kankushi and Muhammad Ashraf Kankushi residents of Hilal Colony Zakoora.
The wife of Shabir Ahmed identified as Shabnam Ara according to family sources was battling for life.
She is critical while her daughter Jumera is safe and sound, the uncle of one of the deceased said.
Reports said soon after the accident the driver of the truck fled from the spot.
We have launched a hunt to nab the driver. The truck has been seized by us and we have registered a case vide FIR number 64/2014 under section 304 A in this regard, a police official said.
