Significantly Shabir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan, who have broken away from Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat and formed their own faction, also escorted Geelani as he led the protest march against the continued security restrictions imposed on the activities of Hurriyat G. The amalgam has confirmed that it was considering proposals of unity from various ‘likeminded’ groups.
Eyewitnesses said a large contingent of police and paramilitary CRPF blocked all roads and lanes leading to the house of Hurriyat Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani at Hyderpora here where the seminar- The Trampled Unbloomed Buds of 2010 was scheduled. Geelani was also supposed to release a book titled Blood Bath during the daylong seminar. Police disallowed the conglomerates office bearers and even journalists from entering Geelanis residence on Wednesday morning.
Newsgathering agency CNS quoted an unnamed senior police official saying that seminar was a threat to peace as it would incite the public sentiments.

The peaceful sit-in continued for half an hour after which Geelani went inside the Hurriyat headqarter located at Hyderpora. “We are considering proposals for a broad-based unity from various separatist groups. We are in touch with our like minded colleague who are right now heading different factions,” CNS quoted Geelani’s spokesman Ayaz Akbar as saying.
While addressing the gathering Geelani condemned the police action and said that such tactics will always prove unproductive for the government. He said that Kashmiri people are fighting for a sacred cause while the height of repression is that, peaceful seminars inside the rooms are disallowed.
