Go Air Takes Lead With First Ever Night Flight From Valley
Srinagar: In a major relief to fliers, the Srinagar International Airport has finally started much awaited night flight operations from the Valley with Go Air becoming the first private player to take off a flight from Srinagar to New Delhi.
The Go Air flight G8 7007 took off from Srinagar Airport around 7:35 pm Friday though the timing will be rescheduled from tomorrow. Go Air operates on Jammu, Delhi and Leh sectors of the erstwhile state.
“Today we started a trial flight at 7:35pm. The flight will now depart at 8:30pm. It is for the first time in the history of Indian aviation that a night flight has taken off and our aim is to start a daily night flight as a scheduled flight,” a senior Go Air official told Kashmir Observer.
“We have those category of pilots who are able to fly in rough terrain,” he said.
He further said that the airliner will add more night flights if the customers show positive response
“Flights are run on demand. We can operate two, three or four more flights, if the customers demand so,” he said.
When asked about the arrangements in place for night operations at the Srinagar airport, the official said that safety comes first for the airlines before starting operations
“There should be night landing system at the runway, ground staff and other safety measures in place. Today, if the flight has taken off then obviously everything is in place,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources said that Indigo, one of the leading airliner in the aviation industry is also starting night flights from Srinagar and the first trial flight will depart from Srinagar airport at around 8.30 pm on Saturday. More private players are also likely to start night operations from here soon.
