Srinagar: Agricultural land is under severe threat as the construction of illegal structures is going unabatedly in various areas especially in Palpora, Noorbagh areas of Srinagar city.
More than 40 illegal structures have shown up in Palpora, Noorbagh areas of the city. These structures include shops, buildings, complexes etc.
The construction of these illegal structures has created a mess in the city and it is the common man who continues to suffer.
Mohammad Isaac, a resident of Palpora said, “Nobody is taking notice of the illegal activity happening in this part of the city, the agricultural land is under deep threat.”
“The side beds of the river have also encroached, every time there is rain, flood threat looms over our heads”, added Isaac.
Not only this particular area many other wards in both uptown and downtown have witnessed a surge in these constructions.
There have been enormous complaints from the public in the past regarding the illegal constructions in other parts of the city. Many news stories in the past have also tried to highlight the issue but Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) seems to be in deep slumber.
The citizens of this particular locality have requested the deputy commissioner Srinagar and the newly appointed commissioner to look out on this matter on priority basis and protect the unlawful conversion of agricultural land. (KDC)
