Top Commander Sajad Afghani Believed To Be Trapped
Srinagar: Two to three unknown militants, including top commander Sajad Afghani is believed to be trapped in an ongoing encounter with state forces in Shopian district of south Kashmir, reports said Saturday.
Acting on intelligence inputs suggesting presence of militants, special operations group (SOG) of police, army’s 34 RR and CRPF laid a siege around Rawalpora village of Shopian on Saturday evening and launched a cordon and search operation, reports said. As the search operation was in progress, the officials said that the militants hiding in the village opened fire upon the joint team.
As per the sources two to three militants are believed to be trapped.
District commander for Shopian Wilayat Lone Alias Sajad Afghani of Lashkar-e-Toiba is believed to among the trapped, news agency GNS reported.
Afghani, a resident of Rawalpora was initially associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit and few months before he had switched to LeT. He has been active since 2018.
2 SPOs Injured In Sopore Grenade Attack
Two special police officers (SPOs) were injured on Saturday in a militant attack in Sopore town of Baramulla district.
Around 11:30 am Saturday, unidentified militants hurled a grenade towards the police post located near the Bus Stand Sopore, a police spokesperson said. In the surprise grenade attack, he said, two policemen Mohammad Afzal and Azad Ahmad received minor injuries.
Both the injured officials have been evacuated to nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries,” the spokesperson said.
He further said that a case has been registered in this regard under relevant sections of law.
“Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this crime. Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on,” he added.
