RAWALPINDI: A suicide bomber crashed into a double-cabin vehicle of security forces in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, killing two military officers and three civilians, Express News reported.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military officers were identified as Lieutenant Colonel Zahir Shah and Lieutenant Colonel Arshad Shaheed.
A suspected suicide bomber attacked a security forces vehicle in Rawalpindi, home to army headquarters and situated adjacent to federal capital of Islamabad, killing five people including two officers, a military source said.
The incident took place on Fateh Jang Road and the identity of the suicide bomber was not known.
Rescue teams from Islamabad and Rawalpindi reached the site of the blast and evacuated wounded to the hospitals. Police have cordoned off the area and started a search operation. Further investigations into the suicide attack are underway.
No group has claimed responsibility of the attack as of yet.
Earlier, there were reports of four of the deceased being officials of an intelligence agency and the fifth being a motor-cycle rickshaw driver.
Meanwhile two Rangers personnel were killed while five others were injured after they were attacked by militants in Kashmore on Tuesday.
Police said that unidentified assailants opened firing at a convoy of Rangers in Bhittai Colony of Kashmore when it was on routine patrol. As a result of the firing, two security personnel died on the spot while five others including an officer sustained injuries.
The assailants managed to flee after the retaliatory action of the security personnel.
