Srinagar: Hours after senior separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani hit out at Pakistan for its contradiction between the stated policy and action over Kashmir issue following the ceasefire announcement, the Pakistan’s Special Committee of the Parliament slammed the former Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman saying that anyone dubbing truce pact as a “sell-out would only serve the cause of Hindutva regime”
The statement by Pak committee led by Shehriyar Afridi came barely hours after Geelani through his special representative Saiyyed Abdullah Gilani released a hard hitting letter questioning Pakistan for carrying out back channel talks with India despite assurances that no engagement will be held with India until August 5 move is rolled back.
“No one can ever betray Kashmir cause. The ceasefire agreement is a bid to help save Kashmiris living on both sides of the LoC. Anyone dubbing it a sellout would only serve the cause of Hindutva regime. Period,” Kashmir Committee posted on its official Twitter handle on Sunday.

Earlier on February 24, India and Pakistan announced that they have agreed to strictly observe all agreements on ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and other sectors. A joint statement issued in Islamabad and New Delhi said the Director Generals of Military Operations of the two countries held discussions over the established mechanism of hotline contact and reviewed the situation along the LoC and all other sectors in a “free, frank and cordial” atmosphere.
“In the interest of achieving mutually beneficial and sustainable peace along the borders, the two DGMOs agreed to address each other’s core issues and concerns which have propensity to disturb peace and lead to violence,” the joint statement said.
However, casting aspersions over the surprising move, Geelani in the letter writes that whether the LoC Truce will ensure peace on the CFL was something that remains to be seen.
“However, the development itself is disturbing as it is surprising,” the letter reads.
The letter also calls out Pakistan for engaging with India after making repeated announcements that no engagement will be made until the August 5 decision of revoking Kashmir’s special status and dividing the state into two Union Territories is not rolled back.
“Ever since India’s brazen aggression on August 5 2019, we have been hearing assurance after assurance that there would be no engagement with India until it rolls back everything it did on August 5. Now we know the back channel talks between the two sides have been going on for several months culminating in the latest DGMO’s pact. May one ask why this contradiction between the stated policy and action? Or may one, for that matter, ask why this secrecy on a matter of such national and international importance? Asks Geelani, through his special representative.
He also asks Pakistan leadership “where does Kashmir figure” in the ceasefire pact reached between the two countries.
Questioning the ceasefire announcement, the senior separatist leader writes that what does the joint statement mean without even mentioning about the August 5 aggression.
“Doesn’t it appear to be a process to roll the clock back to Shimla agreement times and put Kashmir again on the backburner? What this attitude practically does is, it reduces Kashmir issue to a border dispute between India and Pakistan which is on stark contrast with the standpoint of Kashmiri people. For us Kashmir is not a border dispute between two counties, it is the question of the destiny and future of 22 million people. We are principal party here and it is our say that will be final in resolving this issue
