SRINAGAR: Police Monday arrested a private security guard for throwing away a dead newborn outside the maternity center of Lal Ded hospital in Srinagar.
Reports said that attendants staged a massive protest in the premises of Lal Ded Hospital who alleged that a private security guard showed disrespect to the corpse of a baby and threw him away in a fit of rage.
My wife Shameema Bano was admitted in the hospital under D number 5920 and she gave birth to a dead baby. We had aped the dead baby in a blanket and were waiting outside labour room. Suddenly a private security guard of the hospital appeared and directed all the attendants to leave the hospital. He tossed the dead baby and threw it away on the stairs, the father of the dead baby Abdula Qayoom Khan of Haihama Kupwara said.
Reports said that in a bid to pacify the agitated protestors, police was called by Medical Superintendent who accordingly arrested the security guard for displaying disrespect to the corpse of the baby boy.
Yes, we have arrested a security guard namely Farooq Ahmed and a case has been registered against him, a police official said.
Meanwhile, a colleague of the erring security guard said that Farooq Ahmed is innocent as he did not know that the body of the baby was in the blanket.
