Srinagar: Agitated protestors blocked the water supply for Atwatoo Power Station, near Bandipora, on Monday after a motorcyclist accidentally plunged into Atwatoo canal and died of owning. Protestors alleged that the death of the youth resulted due to sheer negligence of Atwatoo power station authorities as according to them they have failed to do fencing of this dangerous canal.
Pertinently, on Sunday evening, a motorcyclist Ajaz Ahmad Sheer Gojri son of Abdul Ahad resident of Quil Muqam Bandipora lost control over his bike and plunged into Atwatoo canal that resulted into his death.
On Monday morning huneds of people from Atwatoo and its adjoining areas took to street and blocked the water supply for the Atwatoo power station. Due to blocking of the water supply, the whole area reeled under darkness.
It is the responsibility and job of the authorities of Atwatoo power station to do fencing of the canal. The canal is wide open from both sides as a result any vehicle or bike plunges it whenever an accident takes place. Last year, a youth lost his life when his vehicle plunged into this dangerous canal, one of the protestors Wahid Ahmed said.
Reports said that despite the intervention of the police, protestors did not restore water supply to the power station and demanded immediate fencing of the open canal.
An official of Atwatoo power station said that they will go for the fencing of the canal in coming days. He said that a plan has already been formulated and work on fencing will be started very soon.
