SRINAGAR- The Jammu and Kashmir cricket team on Sunday lost their opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group by 3 wickets to an inspired Saurashtra team at the Jadavpur University Campus 2nd Ground, in Kolkata.
Batting first, the Jammu and Kashmir team scored a competent total of 279 for the loss of 9 wickets. Vivrant Sharma (66), Shubam Khajuria (68) and Abid Mushtaq (50) all scored half centuries. For Saurashtra, Chetan Sakariya and DA Jadeja picked up 3 wickets each. While K Makvana took 2 wickets.
In response, the Saurashtra batsmen started off in a wobbly fashion, being reduced to 17/3 at one stage. But crucial partnerships helped rescue the match for the Saurashtra Cricket team.
Vishwaraj Jadeja (48) and Arpit Vasavada (66) helped their team initially but it was Chirag Jani (93 not out) and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja (40) who pulled the Saurashtra team to 283/7 and over the victory line, with 5 balls to spare.
For Jammu and Kashmir, Ram Dayal, Mujataba Yousuf And Vivrant Sharma took 2 wickets each.
