SHOPIAN: The family of Neelofar and Asiya Jan are nursing a double grief. One for having lost two young women so brutally to a still unexplained controversy. Other tragedy is their hurt that came through the alleged lies they say the investigating agencies kept spinning during the probe
Its five years of agony and pain. We still dont believe that we ever have come across such a tragedy,” Neelofar’s husband Shakeel Ahmad Ahanger says.
He said that the incident symbolizes brutality, travesty of justice, a systemic pattern of abuse of power by the security forces that goes beyond unjustified laws like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in a Valley that already stands psychologically alienated from the rest of the country.
We approached every forum for justice which still eludes us. Barring few, we were not supported by anyone, but we thank people of Kashmir especially the people of Shopian who always stood by us in thick and thin, Shakeel said adding that the official investigating agencies right from the Special Investigation Team to the CBI spread canards of lies and rumours and used the media as a tool to leak misinformation to confuse people of Kashmir as well as the family of victims.
