Srinagar, Sept 26: With a view to ensuring that no untoward incident took place during the 18th convocation at the University of Kashmir being addressed by the president, Pranab Mukherjee, on Thursday, security agencies have made an extensive and in-depth verification of all the students and scholars who are expected to attend it to receive medals and certificates.
Sources said intelligence agencies had collected minute details of antecedents about all the students and scholars who would be attending the function. A 3-tier ring has also been thrown around to ensure foolproof security on the occasion.
In all, 214 students of various faculties and 234 Ph. D and M. Phil scholars would be awarded with medals and degrees in the convocation.
Im the topper of my batch and I had registered my name for the award. Various security agencies have visited my home to verify about me and my family background, said a student requesting anonymity.
It may be recalled that Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has called for a general strike in protest against presidents visit to the valley. The banned students association of the University has also called for observance of a Black Week asking the students to wear black bands on their arms and also hoist black flags in the campus on the occasion, reports said.
