Srinagar: Three unidentified persons were caught by people when they were trying to abduct a minor girl in Bandipora in north Kashmir on Thursday.
All the three were later handed over to police.
Reports reaching here said shrieks of a nine year old girl (name withheld) who was being forcibly pushed into waiting Maruti Alto car at Chewa, Bandipora caught attention of passers by who rushed to her rescue.
People gathered there caught hold of the three persons, among them a non local, and detained them till police arrived on the scene, eyewitnesses said.
Locals discovered the number plates on the car to be fake as it has two different numbers on two sides. Moreover two more separate number plates were found inside the car.
A police team reached there and took the trio into their custody.
Meanwhile when contacted SSP Bandipora, Rahul Malik said that they have detained three persons and investigations set in motion after allegations made by locals about them of molesting and attempt to abduct a minor girl.
When asked about the identity of the detained persons, the official however said that they are ascertaining the identity of detained persons. “Information will be shared accordingly once the allegations are corroborated”, he said.
