GANDERBAL: Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ganderbal District, Shafqat Iqbal, on Tuesday flagged off a group of 10 students for snow skiing courses being hosted by the Sports department at Gulmarg.
These students were selected for the course from different zones of the district by experienced field staff of the District Youth Services and Sports department on the direction of Director General, Youth Services and Sports department.
The DDC was informed that this was the third contingent from district Ganderbal this season and all the necessary facilities for the students are being provided by the concerned department.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC appreciated students for showing interest in sports, he encouraged them to remain more involved with sports activities, particularly winter sports.
While appreciating the efforts of the DYS&S for facilitating participation of students in such activities, he assured full support to the department in this regard.
DYSSO, Ganderbal, Sheikh Shafkat Iqbal and Activity I/C DYSSO, Ganderbal Mohammad Maqbool along with office staff functionaries and parents of the students were present on the occasion.
Group Of 10 Ramban Students Flagged Off To Gulmarg For Attending Skiing Course
Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat ul Islam, Tuesday flagged off a group of 10 students to Gulmarg for attending snow skiing course.
District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Dharamvir Singh and ZPEO Banihal, Ab. Rehman Wagay were also present on the occasion. The team will be imparted training under the overall supervision of PET Shakeel Ahmed Khan.
The 14-day-long camp is being organized by the Department of Youth Services & Sports Ramban in which students from different education zones of the district are participating. Earlier, a group of girl students also attended the training course at Gulmarg resort.
While interacting with the participants, the DC impressed upon them to grasp the opportunity to learn the skiing skills.
The DC also urged DYSSO to explore the possibility of holding similar skiing events in various parts of the district which receive heavy snowfall and are ideal for adventure sports like skiing.
The DC further asked DYSSO to ensure proper boarding and lodging arrangements for the students during their travel and stay at Gulmarg.
