Srinagar, May 23: National Conference, (NC) General Secretary, Sheikh Nazir Ahmed Friday welcomed the statement of United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki Moon asking India and Pakistan to extend a hand of friendship, trust and mutual cooperation to each other. Sheikh Nazir Ahmed also welcomed the statement of Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain that Pakistan wished to have friendly and cordial relations with India.
In a statement issued here, Sheikh Nazir Ahmed said that all political parties in India as well as in Pakistan should evolve a sustained consensus to improve bilateral ties between the two neighbors who are connected by their history, culture and philosophical roots.
Sheikh Nazir Ahmed, welcoming initiatives of cooperation between New Delhi and Islamabad, said that partisan conflicts should be shunned where matters of positive foreign policy are concerned.
Highlighting the need for continued dialogue and talks between New Delhi and Islamabad, Sheikh Nazir Ahmed said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were both the biggest beneficiaries of peace between the two countries and were also unfortunately the worst victims of animosity between the two neighbors.
He said that both countries should understand the importance of mutual cooperation for the entire South Asian Region and especially for the people of J&K and take bold, paradigm initiatives to come closer to each other in an era of growth and development.
The NC General Secretary said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had made repeated overtures to India to engage in fruitful talks and dialogue after becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan but since elections were around the corner in India – there wasn’t a bold response from New Delhi.
He said that the time had come when New Delhi and Islamabad should work together and reciprocate each other’s urge for peace and brotherhood in the region.
He also implored party workers to leave no stone unturned to serve the people of the State as the voice of the people was the voice of God and the needs of the common masses should come first.
