SRINAGAR: Lieutenant General Sanjiv Chachra, Northern Army Commander arrived at Srinagar Friday on a two day visit to the forward areas of the Chinar Corps, for deliberations on security situation and interaction with military and civil authorities, a defense spokesman said in a statement. The General called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and discussed the prevailing security situation and the measures being undertaken by Army towards sustained peace in the Valley, the statement added. The Army Commander was accompanied by Anshul Chachra, Regional President AWWA, Northern Command.
On his arrival, Army Commander was received by Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh, Chinar Corps Commander and was briefed on the current operational situation on Line of Control and internal security environment prevailing in the hinterland. Army Commander lauded the efforts of Chinar Corps in providing environmental security during recently held elections. He also complimented Chinar Warriors for their professionalism, steadfastness and dedication and wished them operational success in future.
During his two days visit, the Army Commander would also be visiting the LC formations and troops deployed in the forward areas, and interacted with the officers and troops. He is also scheduled to call on HE, NN Vohra, the Governor of J&K.
