They should write victory slogans on China border: CM
SRINAGAR: Authorities in Kashmir have objected to the presence of armed forces on Zabarwan Hills in Srinagar, media reports on Friday said. The administration has blamed Indian army and Border Security Force for “ecological vandalism”, according to the reports.
The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, the reports said, has charged the Army, the Border Security Force and even the Jammu and Kashmir Police, asking each to explain reasons as to why they had committed ecological destruction, with the massive defacement of a hill range overlooking the capital city of Srinagar.
Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah had earlier pulled up senior officials and bureaucrats over turning a blind eye to the large-scale defacement of a barren hill range from Sonwar to Zewan by the police and security forces. The hill and its surroundings are mostly occupied by the Army and other forces and the civilian authorities are offered limited access to the entire region. The armed forces have built lavish residential mansions for the senior commanders and some guesthouses
The boldly embossed slogan Ajeet Hain, Abheet Hain [we are victorious, we are invincible] on the hill range, directly facing a civilian population of two million, sources said, was termed most disgusting by the Chief Minister.
They need to address it to the Chinese Army, not their own people, the Chief Minister has officially said at an official meeting.
Quoting sources, the news reports said that Kashmirs Divisional Commissioner Shailendar Kumar had served the notices separately to the Army, the BSF and the Police on the Chief Ministers direction.
Politicians as well as officials were reportedly in unison that the slogans imposed with painted stones over furlongs of the lofty hills were not only an act of ecological vandalism, and banned by the Supreme Court of India, but also suggestive of conquering the countrys own citizens.
Sources said that a notice, directly served on Headquarters, 15 Corps, asked the Army to immediately restore virginity to the hill. Identical directions under different laws have been reportedly communicated to the BSF and J&K Police.
Indian controlled Kashmir region is considered to be one of the most militarized regions of the world. Human rights activists allege that more than half a million army men and paramilitary soldiers have been stationed here permanently. The disputed region has been the bone of contention between the two warring nations, India and Pakistan. (Transasia News Service)
