Srinagar: Two people, including a young woman on Monday were killed in a road accident in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
An Alto car (HR51-7420) carrying five people skidded off a bridge and fell into a ravine in Kralgund area of Kupwara around 7:10 am on Monday, reports said. Army and locals, the report said, immediately swung into action and started a rescue operation.
The doors of the car and windshield were broken to pull out the travelers–three men and two women–from inside the car. Later, all the persons were removed to nearby hospital in Kupwara where one of them, Usma (23) daughter of Mohammad Iqbal was declared brought dead, officials told local news agency GNS.
Four other critically injured persons identified as Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, Bashir Ahmad Beigh, Asif Ahmad and Sabeena Begam, all residents of Kralpora were later referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
However one of them, Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, succumbed to his injuries at the SMHS hospital Srinagar here, officials added.
