Srinagar: The district authorities in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday sealed a coaching centre after a photo purportedly showing students punished for non-payment of fee took social media by storm evoking sharp condemnation from netizens.
‘A1 Tution’, a coaching centre in Pahloo village of Devsar was sealed by the authorities on Friday for allegedly serving corporal punishment to the students over non-payment of fee, reports said. The coaching centre allegedly forced the students to take off their shoes and made them stand bare feet on the frozen snow. The picture of the bare foot students went viral on popular social networking websites Facebook and Twitter evoking sharp outrage.
Chief Education officer (CEO) Kulgam, Mohammad Ashraf Rather told a local news agency KNO that the coaching centre has been sealed.
“Investigation is going on. We are checking the reason behind the incident, as why students were asked to stand barefoot on frozen snow,” he said.
However, teachers said that they asked students to stand on snow just for creating indiscipline.
The teachers alleged that few parents even beat them.
A local news agency KNT reported that a few parents have filed a complaint at police station Devsar.
“We can’t believe that any Coaching Centre can stoop so low as to force students to stand barefoot on snow in this bone chilling cold merely for not paying fee,” they said.
The report also said that Police have taken cognizance of the matter while management of the Coaching Institute has tendered unconditional apology and given in writing that such incidents won’t be repeated in future.
