This is in reference to an opinion piece, “The highway of hardships” by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat published in your newspaper, Kashmir Observer. The author has highlighted important public grievances which are making the Kashmiris suffer for more than seventy years now.
Srinagar-Jammu highway is in a pathetic condition right now. It is much worse than what it used to be 30 or 35 years back. Instead of getting relief from traffic jams the four laning work from Qazigund to Ramban has further deteriorated. It is only a highway in name now.
There are constant landslides taking place at many spots and the motor vehicle accidents have become frequent now.I hope the Government will blacklist the company which is undertaking road widening work. National Highways Authority of India also needs to be made answerable.
