New Delhi: Claiming that the Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi would certainly espouse Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision on Kashmir peace, a former intelligence officer Amarjit Singh Dulat has asked Hurriyat leaders to break bread with Modi.
I fail to understand why Hurriyat leadership is reluctant to hold a dialogue with the Government of India. Now the Government in India has changed and Modi has already assured that he will pursue the policies of Vajpayee, so it is high time for Hurriyat leaders to get engaged with New Delhi, says Dulat, an old hand of Delhi’s secret talks with separatists.
Dulat said that the emergence of Modi and new government at the Centre has provided a new opportunity to the separatist leadership in Kashmir. Hurriyat leadership should understand that there is nothing wrong in holding dialogue with the Modi government. They have nothing to lose and it is right time for them to share the table with Narendrea Modi, he said.
Replying to a query, Dulat said that he did not meet any Hurriyat leader during his recent stay in Kashmir.
Pertinently, Syed Ali Geelani past week kicked up a row when he claimed that Modi had sent feelers to him and indicated that they might have met with “those who say Vajpayee was better than Manmohan Singh.
Interestingly, the dialogue process between New Delhi and Srinagar-based Kashmir-only leadership had started off during Vajpayee regime but remained on pause even as Manmohan Singh had separate rounds of talks with several key leaders of the separatist amalgam. (CNS)
