Srinagar: Smalltime drug peddlers are increasing their network, Police Monday said adding 28 such persons smuggling drugs have been arrested this year. At least 54 drug peddlers have been rounded up in past 17 months, the authorities said. This year the maximum number of drug peddlers, 11, have been arrested from South Kashmirs Anantnag district. Eight were arrested from Srinagar while Sopore scored with seven arrests. One drug peddler has been arrested from Budgam while another from Awantipora.
Police sources said that last year maximum number of drug peddlers were arrested from Baramulla,10, followed by Anantnag and Awantipora where five each were held . Arrests were made in Kulgam and Bandipora also . Police said that most of these drug peddlers have been bailed out by court.
Meanwhile, Bandipora police apprehended a Chemist and recovered 50 bottles of Codeine phosphate from his shop at Nadihal. He used to sell these to addicted youth of the area. Police recovered 50 bottles of Codeine phosphate concealed in his shop.
A case FIR number 90/2014 under section 8/22 NDPS was registered in Police Station Bandipora and the investigation has been taken up. Further arrests in the case are expected.
