The Congress party has paid heavily for various reasons, one of them being, its political leaders, in general, took the common man for granted. They took a sort of care-a-damn-attitude but then, feelings being reciprocal, the common man did likewise.
The Congress party is making a blunder by not analyzing the root cause of the defeat; instead, they are tackling the symptoms by resorting to blame-game. The root cause is the Gandhi family. By repeatedly going in for Modi-bashing, they did negative propaganda for Modi. Modi cleverly cashed on their immature insinuations.
The Gandhi dynasty no longer sells. The youth today are educated and conscious. They speak of development, infrastructure, good governance, entrepreneurship, etc. Also, the Indian nation well knows about the way the Gandhi family insulted, hounded and misused Manmohan Singh. Sonia Gandhi was cruel to Pranab Mukherjee who was a backbone of the Congress. She wanted yes-mam partymen around her. The Congress party paid the price. Moreover, the Congress supported and protected the scamsters and the fraudulent. The Food Security Bill was an eye-wash. The money never reached the poor.
The social media is very powerful and played a crucial rule in the crushing defeat inflicted on the Congress. The Congress party, in general, and the Gandhi family, in particular, were apparently interested in protecting the Gandhi family from attacks by the Opposition. Sonia Gandhi blundered by stooping to call Modi maut-kaa-saudagar. The common man abhorred this comment. The Congress tried to play communal card and simultaneously, kept calling the BJP communal. This too backfired.
