Srinagar: In a bid to prevent the deadly virus from spreading, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has fined 188 norm violators within Municipality limits in two days and realized a fine of over Rs 37000 from them.
Pertinently, SMC decided to fine Rs 200 from all those who are found without face masks within its limits from January 1st.
As per the figures, SMC has realized Rs 37,600 as fine from the norm violators in two days (Friday and Saturday).
Deputy Mayor SMC, Parvaiz Qadri said that one the first day of the campaign, at least 75 persons were fined for violating the norms in 35 wards of the corporations.
He added that on day two, a total of 113 persons were fined within the Municipality limits, adding that Rs 1200 each were realized from the norm violators across Srinagar all the 35 wards of the corporation. He said in the initial days, Rs 200 only will be realized as fine from norm violators and in case they (people) don’t adhere to the guidelines, the fine will go up to Rs 500.
The amount on the first two days of the camping realized is Rs 37,600. Qadri said that the response on the ground is quite appreciable and people are being found wearing face masks.
He added that from Monday, they will visit places like coaching centers and other places where huge gatherings are being witnessed almost on a regular basis to check whether all the set norms are being followed in letter and spirit.
Pertinently, SMC created awareness among the masses for almost seven days from December 26 and urge people to wear face masks to prevent the deadly virus from spreading. The Corporation had also set January 01st as deadline for wearing the face masks and had announced that anyone found violating the norms would be fined in between Rs 200 to Rs 500. —(KNO)
