56 resign in Kakapora Block Alone
SRINAGAR: Panchayat members, terrified by the murder of at least three Village heads in South Kashmir this month, are quitting in droves.
The fear has mounted as mysterious warning posters have appeared on mosque walls, lamp posts and shop shutters at different places in the three adjacent districts of Anantnag, Kulgam and Pulwama in south Kashmir.
At least 14 village heads including three Sarpanchs tendered their resignations in these three districts on Monday. After the three political killings in Tral area, more than 300 village representatives belonging to different political parties have abdicated their posts.
According to CNS, at least four village heads from Kulgam town tendered their resignation to the appropriate authority, and also publicized their action through public address system in their respective area. Those who quit the job are Sarpanchs, Nazir Ahmed Itoo (Hangal Buch) and Nisar Ahmed Wani (Balsoo) Panchas, Abdula Rehman Dar (Baripora) and Ali Muhammad Bhat (Hatipora),
In Pulwama district Sarpanch Abdul Gani Bulla (Letapora), Panchas, Feroz Ahmed Bhat (Nayen) Mushataq Ahmed Hanji, Yasmeena Majeed (Letapora), Muhammad Shafi Shah, Fayaz Ahmed Dar, Gulshana Fayaz (Khrew Pampore), Nazir Ahmed Shiekh (Laru Kakapora), Sarjina Nisar(Sunargund Awanitpora) tendered their resignation on Monday.
At least 56 village heads of Kakpora Block tendered their resignation. All the village heads from Halqa Parigam, Ratnipora, Kisrigam, Talangam, Narwa, Wagam and Gandipora resigned on Monday. These included 13 Sarpanchs, one Deputy Sarpanch and 42 Panchas. Those who tendered their resignations are Sarpanch Muhammad Ismail Bhat, Abdul Aziz Bhat, Deputy Sarpanch Ghulam Muhammad Bhat Panchs Muhammad Shafi Bhat, Abdul Gani Bhat, Hamid Bhat Fatima Banoo, Manzoor Gojri (Parigam Halqa), Sarpanch Sajad Andrabi, Deputy Sarpanch Gulzar Wani, Panchs Abdul Gani, Ishaq Ganaie, Yasmeena Bano and Amina Bano (Puchal), Sarpanch Haji Ghulam Ahmed Mir form Gandipora Halqa, Sarpanch Nisar Shiekh, Panchs Ghulam Mohi-u-Din, Bashir Mantoo, Aamina Banoo, Jabar Lone, Muhammad Akbar Dar (Kisrigam), Sarpanch Bashir Khan, Panchs Noor Muhmmad Sofi, Ghulam Muhammad Shah, Jameel Wani, Farooq Dar, Afrooza Banoo, Shameema Akhtar (Narwa), Sarpanch Muhammad Yousuf Rather, Panch Muhammad Anwar Bhat and Manzoor Ganaie form Lajoora, Sarpanch Ali Muhammad Ganaie, Panchas Ashraf Teli, Abdul Karim Hajam, Zubeeda Akhtar and Tasleems Akhtar from Tulangam Halqa, Sarpanch Muhammad Akbar Bhat and Panch Haneefa Banoo from Wagam, Sarpanch Bashir Malik, Panch Bashir Rather, Nazir Rather, Ghulam Hasan Rather, Rashid Dar and Majeed Khan from Hakripora Halqa, Sarpanch Nazir Mir and Panch Shezada Banoo from Narrach Halqa,Sarpanch Syed Hameedullah Andrabi, Bashir Ahmed Mir, Panchas Shafqat-ul-Islam, Mubeena Akhtar, Rafiq Dhobi, Shehzada Banoo, Haleema Akhtar, Hasan Bhat, Ghulam Nabi Reshi, and Bashir Ahmed Akhoon from Ratnipora Pulwama.
A Panch from Rooh Anantnag Abdul Salam Rather son of Abdul Raheem also tendered his resignation.
Meanwhile, the authorities have revived night patrolling by the army, paramilitary and police, following the recent increase in militancy related incidents. (CNS)
