SRINAGAR: In the backdrop of the killing of a polling officer in Nagabal area of South Kashmirs Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum and Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) Teachers Forum Friday declared that as a mark of protest all the government schools and colleges in Kashmir Valley would remain closed on April 26 (Saturday). Meanwhile, in Shopian district all the government schools and Colleges remained shut on Friday in memory of the government teacher Zia-ul-Haq Wani who was killed by unidentified gunmen on Thursday.
According to CNS, body of Zia-ul-Haq son of Muhammad Yousuf Wani resident of Hurpora Shopian who is survived by an 11 year old son was laid to rest at his ancestral grave yard at Hurpora. Hundreds of people participated in his last rites.
Chairman ReT Teachers Forum Jammu and Kashmir, Ghazi Abdul Aziz on this occasion told CNS that they have decided to suspend the work in all government schools and colleges of Kashmir Valley on Saturday against the brutal killing of government teacher Zia-ul-Haq. He castigated government for not providing foolproof security to polling staff and said that all the government teachers would stay from electoral process in case government fails to provide them proper security.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum has also called for a complete strike in Schools and Colleges on Saturday. Provincial President Teachers Forum, Muhammad Afzal while expressing condolences to the bereaved family said that the Forum has decided to suspend the work on Saturday as a mark of protest against the killing of the government teacher.
Hurpora and its adjoining areas observed a complete shutdown while protestors clashed with CRPF personnel at Meemandar and Hurpora hamlets. Locals alleged that CRPF soon after the culmination of polling on Thursday evening assaulted people without reason, an allegation denied by police.
