Srinagar: Budgam police Monday arrested a Hyderpora resident and registered a case against him in connection with kidnapping & brutal sexual assault on a 23-year-old girl in Bemina, Budgam.
According to police after the abduction of a 23-year-old girl in Narkara Budgam on December 22, there has been a wave of public anger against the accused.
In this regard, Budgam police arrested one Irzaan Kaunsar son of Kaunsar Ahmad Khan, resident of Gulberg Colony Hyderpora.
Based on a complaint received by Police Station Budgam a 23 year old girl (name withheld) in her complaint had accused that Arzan Ahmad Khan gave her lift in a car, but did not stop at her destination and instead took her to some unknown place where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. Police said that the case in this regard has been registered under FIR No. 465/20 US 366,376 IPC .
Police also confirmed that the accused has been arrested,
Meanwhile residents have expressed outrage at the incident and demanded stern punishment to the involved person.
Religious leaders and civil society in Budgam have called on the police to take the case to its logical conclusion and serve the exemplary punishment to the guilty so that it would serve as a deterrent for such crimes.
The residents alleged that the accused was trying to influence the case by utilising his contacts back home. They sought intervention of higher officials to ensure transparency in the case.
