SRINAGAR: Police is taking the necessary measures to ensure the security of the Panches and Sarpanches across valley in view of the recent killings in Tral, Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Prasad said in an interview on Tuesday.
He said the police is investigating the killing of Sarpanches in South Kashmir and the probe is going on in the full swing. Prasad said that a massive manhunt has been launched in the area to nab the gunmen involved in the attacks on Panchayat representatives. The initial findings reveal that the militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen was involved in Tral attacks, he added.
Earlier the militants had a strategy to attack the security forces and when that was countered, they have now started targeting Panchayat representatives. The police is verifying the facts and will soon come out with the details, said the DGP. The state police chief remarked further that the necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of Panches and Sarpanches in the state.
Commenting over the recent rift between two factions of Huriyat Conference and whether the parties face any security threats after the recent verbal dual, the state police chief said that the inputs reveal that both the factions have no security threats at present. We are ascertaining the situation and once we feel any threat to the separatist leaders, we will increase their security cover. kns
