SRINAGAR: Farooq Abdullah’s political pointer seems to have backfired. R K Singh, former home secretary and BJP leader, Monday indicated that chief minister Omar Abdullah was party to Guru’s secret execution on February last. In his response to Abdullah’s allegation that he expedited Afzal Guru’s hanging, Singh said if Farooq wanted to know the details he should seek them from his son and present chief minister Omar Abdullah. The senior Abdullah had claimed that the former home secretary R K Singh in order to address his personal bias manipulated law and facilitated the hanging of Kashmiri young man Afzal Guru. 

“I advice him (Farooq Abdullah) to talk to his son Omar Abdullah if he so interested in the details about Afzal Guroo’s execution and his son would tell him whether he was informed or not,” Singh told various news agencies here.

“Please tell Farooq Abdullah to talk to his Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Omar Abdullah and find out the details about the Muhammad Afzal Guroo’s execution,” a newsgathering agency quoted Singh as said.

“My simple submission to him to seek details from his son Omar Abdullah and if he would do it (rather I should say his son would have already informed him) he would never talk about Afzal Guroo and would never point his finger toward me,” he said.

He further said that it is really astonishing that despite knowing the fact, Farooq Abdullah talks something which one can’t digest. “It is not new for Farooq Abdullah to accuse anyone as he is habitual of talking in air without knowing the facts,” Singh said.

Meanwhile leaders from both separatist and mainstream organizations have castigated patron of National Conference Farooq Abdullah for holding former Home Secretary of India R.K.Singh responsible for the secret execution of Muhammad Afzal Guroo.

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) in his reaction termed  Farooq’s statement an election stunt,  stating that he has no right to protest against the hanging of Afzal. “It was  Farooq who signed the execution warrant of Maqbool Bhat and now he is shedding tears over Guru’s hanging. The truth is he and his son was fully aware about the execution of Guru. Omar Abdullah even asked GOI to hang Guru at an earliest so that tourism season doesn’t get affected.”

“It was dead impossible for a single Government employee (R.K.Singh) to do the job while the fact is that it was the collective decision of Government of India,” CNS quoted Mirwaiz as said. “It is really sorry to state that Farooq Abdullah is now repeatedly claiming that he and his colleagues were unaware about the development while the truth is they knew every detail and still if they were not informed then it was their moral responsibility to tender resignation,” Mirwaiz said adding that hollow claims made by Farooq Abdullah were not going to help him.

Mirwaiz said that Government of India itself admitted that it was a collective political decision to hang Muhammad Afzal Guroo. “Why Farooq Abdullah remained mum over the issue for such a long period and why he did not open up his mouth that time when Guroo was hanged and why he did not resign if he was not informed about the secret execution of Guroo,” Mirwaiz wondered.

People’s Democratic Party spokesperson Nayeem Akhtar termed the claims of Farooq Abdullah as bogus and ridiculous and said that with his every irresponsible comments, Farooq Abdullah is sounding more and more irrelevant.

“This is a bogus argument that an officer could hang a person without political approval. It is a known fact that Guroo was sacrificed to stop Modi’s rise and facilitate Rahul Gandhi’s chances to become the Prime Minister of India. The Abdullah’s offered Guroo’s neck only to repay the debt they owed to Rahul Gandhi. Everybody knows that when Omar Abdullah Government killed 110 innocent Kashmiri youth in 2010, then it was Rahul Gandhi who intervened to save the chair of Omar Abdullah,” he said.

Akhtar further said that Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah know that they have burnt all the bridges with the people of Kashmir. “National Conference is desperate to revive the only possible life line to power but they must have realized that their source of power in Delhi is drying up,” he said.

Chairman Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir, Shabir Ahmed Shah said that it was Farooq Abdullah who signed on the black warrant of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat. “It is absolutely wrong to blame Home Secretary of India for the secret execution of Muhammad Afzal Guroo. Farooq Abdullah’s claim that he and Ghulam Nabi Azad were not aware about the development is aimed at to befool the people of the State. Look, how Chief Minister of Punjab and his son persuaded Manmohan Singh and save Bhullar from getting executed. Farooq Abdullah knew everything and he is just misleading people of Jammu and Kashmir by his childish statements,” Shah said.

People’s Democratic Front Chairman Hakim Muhammad Yasin said that if according to Dr Farooq Abdullah, Guroo was executed by R.K.Singh then whom we can held responsible for the hanging of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat.

“I want an answer from Farooq Abdullah that on what basis he is going to charge-sheet former Home Secretary of India. Could he please tell me who was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir when Maqbool Bhat was hanged in Tihar Jail,” Yasin questioned.

Hakim Muhammad Yasin said that this chest beating is not going to help Farooq Abdullah and we need an answer from him that why he did not abdicate if he was not informed about the secret execution of Guroo.

Hurriyat Conference (G) spokesperson, Ayaz Akbar termed the Farooq’s statement as political gimmick and said that he is doing all this to get some votes from the people. “Besides the policy-makers of India we hold Farooq Abdullah and his son directly responsible for the murder of Afzal Guroo,” he said.

“Let me make it clear that both Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah were informed beforehand while in response Omar Abdullah advised New Delhi to execute Guroo in Winter as he felt Tourism season would suffer in case Guroo is hanged in Spring,” Akbar said

MLA Langate and President Awami Itihaad Party Engineer Rashid said that how come it is possible for an individual officer to execute Guroo. “Farooq Abdullah is lying and deceiving the people through his fake ‘emotional and hollow claims. I ask his party why it did not support my resolution seeking clemency for the Guroo,” Rashid said.

National Democratic Front Chairman and former Member Parliament Abdul Rashid Kabli said that the statement made by Farooq Abdullah is totally irresponsible. “During the execution of Guroo, Farooq Abdullah was the part of the Union Cabinet and all the Cabinet Minister are directly in touch with the Prime Minister of India. How come it is possible that a Cabinet Minister would be unaware about a sensitive development. Still, if he was not informed then it was his moral responsibility to resign from the Cabinet berth which he did not do because he was knowing everything,” Kabli said.

He revealed that Farooq Abdullah did not listen to him when he pleaded before him not to sign on the death warrant of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat. “Late Shiekh Muhammad Abdullah had given a word to Syed Ali Geelani, Abdul Gani Lone and me on the floor of the House that he would not allow India to hang Maqbool Bhat. When I reminded Farooq Abdullah in presence of his mother Begam Abdullah and Shiekh Nazir that his father has given a word and he should not sign on the death warrant of Bhat, he utterly refused and did not listen to me that time and paved the way for his execution,” Kabli said adding that he had approached Mufti Muhammad Sayeed as well and being the president of State Congress party that time he had also assured him that never on earth Maqbool Bhat would be hanged.

Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Forum president Pandit Bushan Bazaz in a scathing attack on Farooq Abdullah said that he known that R.KSingh is not now in service and has joined BJP and that is why he targeted him. “Why Farooq Abdullah did not dare to accuse him when he was in service. Farooq is shedding crocodile tears and he knows well how to appease people during election time,” Bazaz said adding that he and his son was fully informed by the Centre before Guroo was hanged.

Amir Jamat-i-Isalmi Muhammad Abdullah Wani said that there is not an iota of doubt in this fact that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was informed beforehand. “If he blames R.K.Singh then he should blame first his son Omar Abdullah who was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Is it possible that before taking any decision pertaining to a particular state, New Delhi would ignore the head of that state. Farooq Abdullah is befooling people and he knows his party has committed blunder and now he is giving an impression that his hands are clean,” Wani said.

The Parliament candidate of BJP from Srinagar, Fayaz Ahmed Bhat said that any Home Secretary can’t act unless he gets directions from the top. “Why Fardooq Abdullah blames R.K.Singh when he knows that it was the collective decision of Government of India and he was party to that decision,” Bhat said adding that National Conference has lost ground in the State and now he is trying to gain sympathy of people by uttering ‘worthless’ remarks.
