Srinagar – Strongly condemning the killing of panchayat members, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party Tuesday accused the National Conference-led coalition government of failure to protect the lives of elected representatives, if not of direct involvement.
In a statement, the NPP chairman, Prof Bhim Singh, urged the prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to convene an urgent meeting of state leaders to assess the deteriorating situation because of the dubious role of National Conference leadership.
The NPP chief reminded the prime minister of the dangerous designs of the NC leaders to what he termed as sabotage peace and add to anarchy and civil unrest since 1951. He accused the party of dispatching youth to Pak-administered Kashmir in 1989-90 for arms training and of opening the floodgates for armed trained youth to enter Kashmir valley via Nepal, using the resettlement law.
Singh said the panchs and sarpanchs had earned the wrath of NC government because they had got over 80 per cent mandate of the people who have been shut out by the NC government to give the impression that all Kashmiris are anti-India except one family.
He said the only way out was to dismiss the present government and hold fresh elections in a free and fair manner with the participation of Hurriyat Conference stalwarts. He called on Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other leaders to stop gimmicks and instead get ready for the next election to provide a genuine representation to the people of the valley for the redress of their genuine problems they have been facing since 1947. He also asked them to refrain from organizing protests or strikes on the visit of president of India.
