Srinagar: Two soldiers were injured in an ongoing encounter between militants and government forces in Imam Sahab area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, reports said Friday.
A senior police officer told local news agency KNO that two soldiers received injuries after militants and the joint team of forces exchanged gunfire after hours of lull in Kanigam village of Imam Sahab. Both the injured soldiers, the police officer said, have been shifted to hospital for treatment
“Initial exchange of fire took place in orchards and now militants are trapped inside a residential house,” he said
“All entry and exits points have been sealed and lights have been installed in the area, so that militants don’t flee from the spot,” he added.
Earlier, police, army’s 44 RR and CRPF laid a siege around Kanigam on the basis of information suggesting presence of militants in the area. When the joint team started advances, the hiding militants opened fire towards them in a bid to escape from their dragnet.
After a brief exchange of fire, the guns fell silent. However, in the late night hours, the two sides traded another bout of fire.
Meanwhile, internet services have been snapped in Shopian district by the authorities in view of the combing operation
