Guests prefer High-speed Wifi over Tasty Food
By Khalid Mustafa
APART from some, people still struggle for things as basic as food. Now, even technology has been wired into some brains and lives as a necessity.
Not only the young generation but elderly people have become screen dependent. There was a time when young people would spend time with the elders in their homes and hear folk and fairy tales from them. But now, we’re glued to our screens and miss all these treasures which were true to our past.
Our interactions are limited to texting each other and we have no time for our loved ones. We are stuck to screens even when critical discussions are happening or during family time.
Different NGOs and Government bodies should come forward to provide the knowledge and awareness among people about being dependent on technology and how they affect our daily love , care and physical activity etiquettes in society.
Technology does not just mean to have internet connectivity and having smart gadgets you are dependent on but now we have technology that requires us nothing but a wifi connection to operate our lives. This not only gives birth to emotional problems but to a lot more health issues.
When we book a hotel or visit any relative or friend’s house, it is now a priority to check whether the place has wifi connectivity; food is secondary now. This is enough to understand our level of dependence on the internet.
Special dates like birth dates, holidays, and celebrations were once fondly memorized. Now, we’re reminded about these on our socials. Unfortunately, even the news of someone’s death is now received as we scroll past insignificant things on the internet.
We have stopped truly caring for each other and practice formality by text and show emotion by a smiley. People don’t have supporting shoulders to cry on.
We may in the coming days not need any mirrors in our houses. We now have selfies and can put great filters to it. These filters may hide scars on our faces but cannot hide the grief that comes with feeling alone as people have grown distant.
However, technology is also a blessing to the human race. This is obvious from our experience during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The world depended heavily on the internet across sectors. Education, Business and all such sectors started shifting online. Work from Home became a norm.
We should use the technology for our good because it has that potential. But, reckless use of it can lead to more bad than good. Something that connects shouldn’t isolate us and affect our relationships with the world. Emotions are welcome when they are real.
Medical sciences have already warned us for the same but we are not taking the things seriously even when the situation is alarming.
The affection graphs towards our relations are going downwards and we can raise the graph again by not being too dependent on the internet world only. We should join hands together to revive and revise our childhood memories and actions: spend time together, talk, hug and love each other beyond the virtual.
Our books have been replaced by digital resources. This is dangerous as we’re increasingly dependent on shortcut resources which may be unverified and even false. This has, infact, led to more hatred and violence because of misinformation.
One discussion in front of each other is worth thousand meetings performed online. Life is limited and we should protect the human race and our health mentally, emotionally or physically. We should take measures to come out of this virtual world for some time and experience the real nature and world.
