SRINAGAR: Police in Nowpora Idgah Mohalla of Sopore town arrested a youth after he allegedly tried to kidnap a girl with the help of his three associates. The accused was reportedly having an acquaintance with the girl from past few years.
According to the CNS Imran Ahmed Dar son of Sanaullah Dar aka Jagroo allegedly barged into the house of one Ghulam Mohindin Var along with his three associates in Nowpora hamlet with an intention to kidnap a girl. The family members of the girl raised an alarm and people managed to catch hold of Imran while his three associates fled from the spot.
Reports said that as the news about the kidnapping bid spread in the town, large number of people marched towards the house of the accused and tried to torch it. The house was partially damaged while the angry mob caused damage to few vehicles parked inside the house.
As the family of the girl reportedly revealed that Imarn Dar used to harass them off and on and on few occasions carried the weapon with himself, police arrested him and recovered an A.K.47 rifle from his house.
Police sources said that the accused claimed that the weapon does not belong to him as it was kept in his house by one of his relatives who works in police department. Police sources said that the said police constable have been called from Handwara to police station Sopore for questioning.
Police said that the accused was arrested in 2013 vide FIR number 90 under Arms Act and before that he had been arrested in 2012 vide FIR number 276.
Police sources said that there are apprehensions that the weapon belonged to LeT commander Fahadullah as the accused was having acquaintances with him. Fahadullah was killed during an encounter last year.
Deputy Inspector General North Kashmir Range Ghulam Hasan Bhat said that Imaran was having close association with LeT commander Fahadullah who had handed over this weapon to him. He is an Over Ground Worker and we are investigating the case, he said.
SP Sopore, Abdul Qayoom said that they had inputs that four militants were present in the house in Nowpora area. As we cordoned off the village, this kidnapping incident occurred and we arrested Imarn Dar but his associates who are also OGWs fled from the spot. He said that the accused was close associate of Fahadullah and the weapon that was recovered from his house belonged to the former slain militant. (CNS)
