Srinagar: Police on Saturday arrested a cop for allegedly threatening a Panchayat member from abstaining from voting in the ongoing District Development Council (DDC) elections in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The cop identified as Irshad Ahmad, a resident of Kandi Baramulla was arrested by police after a female Panchayat member filed a complaint against him and two others for allegedly threatening her to abstain from voting in the ongoing DDC polls, news agency KNT reported.
The woman Panch member from Block Hudipora, as per the report has in her complaint before police post Delina stated that three persons, one of them brandishing a pistol, approached her last night asking her to abstain from DDC election voting. Besides the cop, she has named Manzoor Ahmad Dar, a civilian, and Iqbal Ahmad, a teacher for threatening her.
“We have taken cognizance of the complaint and registered a case. An FIR vide number 214/2020 under sections 506, 354 B, 452 has been registered in this regard, and investigation has been set into motion,” the report quoted a police officer as saying.
Pertinently, mother of one of the accused is also contesting in these elections.
