Jammu Underlining commitment of the government to develop urban centers on modern lines, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand said ambitious development projects have been launched all across the state for equipping towns and cities with all required urban infrastructure and to address the urban requirements of city inhabitants.
He said the central government has been providing adequate funds for various urban infrastructure development projects and under JNNURM in Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) sector numbers of initiatives have been taken to address requirements of all strata of the urban population.
Mr. Tara Chand was interacting with delegation of Chamber of Commerce and prominent citizens of Jammu at Civil Secretariat, here today.
Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation Mr. K.L Khajuria along with a team of officials was present during the interaction.
The delegation led by President CCI, Jammu Mr. Y.V. Sharma apprised the Deputy Chief Minister of various requirements of the city and projected demands of the business community.
Enlisting the projects launched in the summer capital, Mr. Tara Chand said traffic signal lights, flyover project from Bikram Chowk, ambitious project of augmenting water supply by utilising Chenab water, creation of facilities under BSUP, Rehabilitation of Slum Dwellers, construction of modern Abattoir and modernising sewerage system are among the projects undertaken to develop the city on pattern of metros.
The ambitious project of installing traffic signals in Jammu and Srinagar has been partly completed and would go a long way to regulate traffic and ease the commuters from frequent traffic jams, he added. He said the installation of signals have been undertaken by JMC and SMC by utilizing their own resources and in the near future more lights would be added to the system.
The Deputy Chief Minister said state of the art e-governance facility has been launched in the Municipalities of the State and the project would promote transparency at all levels in the department. With the launch of online facilities our aim is to ensure availability of different municipal services viz. building permission, birth certificate, birth and death registration, e-tendering and public grievance on web portal of the department, so as to encourage transparency and efficiency in working of the municipalities, he added.
He said the government has also set in motion revision of master plan for Jammu and Srinagar cities , besides new master plans are being formulated for several other towns, adding that draft master plans would be discussed with all the stake holders and e adopted after necessary deliberations.
He said in order to address the issue of frequent delays in getting building permission the service has also gone online and now people can watch the progress of their case from their home. Laxity would not be tolerated and guilty would be punished as per the law, he added.
Mr. Tara Chand said to cater the requirements of growing housing needs of popultion, new housing projects are coming up and vertical growth as per norms is being encouraged.
While appreciating the steps taken in the Housing and Urban Development sector, the Chamber delegates congratulated the Deputy Chief Minister for the landmark people friendly initiatives and assured that people and business community at large supports the measures taken by the government to bring transparency and accountability in the administration.
