TRAL: Hundreds of people in Tral town clashed with Army and attacked military vehicles with stones after they allegedly fired a shot inside a residential house to give an impression that militants were present there. People held protests and observed a complete shutdown against the incident on Wednesday.
CNS reported that army personnel from 3 RR concluded the search operation in Dadsara area of Tral on Tuesday afternoon. They said that suddenly army personnel appeared at around 6 in the evening and cordoned the house of one Ali Muhammad Bhat son of Muhammad Subhan resident of New Colony Dadsara.
Army personnel asked me to accompany them, Bhat said adding as they entered into my house one of the jawans fired a shot in the air. I along with other family members hurriedly came out of the house. As I narrated the incident to the people, they turned violent and pelted stones on the search party, Bhat said.
He said that there was no militant present in my house and he failed to understand why Army opened fire and what was their motive.
Bhat further said that soon after firing in air, army switched on their power generators which they were carrying along with them to start a search operation in the area.
Reports said that top police officials led by SP Awantipora rushed to the spot and pacified protesting residents.
They said that after the intervention of police, instead of army, police conducted the search operation. Locals alleged that army on the pretext of presence of militants in the areas frequently come for random searches. Top police officials assured people that they would look into the matter.
People observed a complete shutdown in the town against the incident and organized a motor rally. Hundreds of people carrying placards and banners drove their vehicles in different lanes and by lanes of the town.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Manzoor Ahmed said that he would look into the matter and if the allegations levelled by people prove correct, stern action would be initiated against the erring army personnel.
Srinagar based Defence spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel, N.N.Joshi told CNS that he would find out what actually has happened in Tral.
