JAMMU- J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages on Monday launched the 2-day Urdu Conference, seventh in the series of language conferences started by the institution in November 2012. The topic of the conference is Jammu Wa Kashmir Mai Urdu Shairee (Urdu poetry in Jammu & Kashmir.)
Earlier, similar conferences in Kashmiri, Dogri, Punjabi, Hindi, Gojri and Pahari languages were held by the institution. The last of the series will be held in Ladakhi at Leh next month.
During the two days, noted writers and scholars will present their papers on different aspects of Urdu poetry in J&K giving an overview of various forms of Urdu poetry. These include Mohammad Yusuf Taing, Dr. Zahoor ud Din, Ghulam Nabi Khayal, Prof. Qudoos Javaid, Prof. Sukh Chain Singh, Dr. Ayaz Rasool Nazki, Prof. Assad Ullah Wani, Dr. Liaqat Jafri, Dr. Nazir Azad, Dr. Premi Romani, Dr. Riaz Ahmad, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Dr. Mohammad Lateef Mir.
In the inaugural session today, prominent writer and researcher, Mohammad Yusuf Taing, presented keynote address. He spoke about the quality of Urdu poetry in J&K.
Noted writer Dr. Zahoor ud Din presided over the proceedings while prominent Dogri writer, Prof. Nilambar Dev Sharma was the chief guest. Besides, writers, poets, artists and lovers of Urdu were present on the occasion.
Before the formal start of the conference, noted singer Dharmesh Nargotra sang two soulful Urdu ghazals which enthralled the audience.
On this occasion, special Urdu publications of the Academy including Iqbal Ahbaab-o-Aasaar by Dr. Akbar Hyderi, Jammu Wa Kashmir Mai Urdu Nasr, Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh Number, Vol 8 and Shiraza Gosha-e- Akbar Hyderi were released.
The post-lunch session was marked by presentation of four papers by Dr. Zahoor ud Din, Ghulam Nabi Khayal, Prof. Qudoos Javaid and Dr. Riaz Ahmad who dwelt on pre-1947 Urdu poetry in J&K, Urdu quartet in J&K and post-independence Urdu ghazal in J&K critical review of Urdu ghazal.
On the second and concluding day, Dr. Ayaz Rasool Nazki, Prof. Assad Ullah Wani, Dr. Liaqat Jafri, Dr. Nazir Azad, Dr. Premi Romani, Prof. Sukh Chain, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Dr. Mohammad Lateef Mir will present their papers in two sessions. The topics would be Urdu poets of Kashmir and Jammu, post-modernity influences on States poetic landscape, non-Muslim poets of Urdu ghazal in J&K, challenges confronting Urdu ghazal in J&K, Urdu poem in J&K, comparative study of Urdu ghazal and other poetic forms and post-1947 Urdu poetry in J&K.
The conference will culminate with an All-Jammu Urdu Mushaira on Tuesday.
In his welcome address, Secretary Academy, Khalid Bashir Ahmad, described the conference as an important literary event that would help appreciate the scenario of Urdu poetry in Jammu & Kashmir. He said the Academy is committed to promotion of Urdu and its vast publication programme was aimed at this end. He said regular literary events were held including seminars, poetic symposia, conferences and discussions which help understand issues and find out solutions to impediments.
Khalid said the series of language conferences were very successful and highly appreciated by literary circles. He thanked the participants and said their presence elevated the event and made it purposeful.
