Directs immediate operationalization of IT labs
Srinagar – Chief Secretary Madhav Lal Monday directed immediate operationalization of Information Technology labs of Forest Department to consolidate the field data for better planning, evaluation and scientific management of forests in the state.
Chairing the 6th Steering Committee meeting of CAMPA, the Chief Secretary laid stress on implementation and execution of information and communication technology for Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department. He called for galvanizing resources towards digitalization of records and computerization of CAMPA accounts.
The Steering Committee of CAMPA reviewed the performance and work executed under various components including fencing, nursery and field plantation, pasture development and soil conservation etc of the scheme for last year and approved the Revised Annual Plan of operation for 2012-13.
The meeting was informed that during 2010-11 and 2011-12 under the CAMPA scheme 7838 hectares of land were brought under afforestation. Against the outlay of Rs. 70.10 crores during the period Rs. 55.68 crore have been spent so far on the project. As many as 143 nurseries have also been established during the period in which nearly one crore plants have been raised. The plant production target in nurseries for 2012-13 is 37.56 lakhs, it was further informed.
The Committee was informed that the geo-coordinated maps of the forest divisions have been prepared and the location of CAMPA plantation work executed during the year 2010-11, 2011-12 and proposed for 2012-13 have also been clearly depicted on these maps along with photographs.
The Chief Secretary asked the Forest Department to ensure concurrent monitoring based on remote sensing techniques and satellite imagery is carried out utilizing services and expertise of the State Science and Technology Department as well.
