Top police officials visited the spot and tried to make them understand that the police picked up no youth. However, people continued to protest for hours. Police exercised maximum restraint and did not disperse the protestors.
According to CNS people were surprised when they came to know that the said youth was not arrested by police but was taken hostage by a group of youth who had beaten him to pulp for misbehaving with them.
