Ive No Faith in Magisterial Probes: Lone
SRINAGAR: Terming the government probes in Kashmir as a futile exercise, National Conference senior leader and Minister for Higher Education, Muhammad Akbar Lone Monday said that he does not have faith in such Commissions and demanded that a sitting or a retired High Court Judge be nominated to probe the killing of Shahgund youth Farhat Ahmed Dar killed in police firing on Friday evening.
I know what will be result of magisterial probe. It is a futile exercise. We all know what happened to Markandal probe. I dont have faith in such commissions and even people have lost faith in such commissions, Lone, who served as speaker of J&K Assembly earlier told Srinagar based news gathering agency CNS. He was categoric saying there is no doubt that Shahgund youth Farhat was killed by men in uniform.
I am not concerned whether Farhat Dar was killed by Indian Reserve Policemen, Jammu and Kashmir Policemen, CRPF or Army. I only know this that it was a cold-blooded murder and men in uniform killed him. Stringent punishment should be awarded to the killers and no escape route should be provided to them, he said.
Muhammad Akbar Lone said that men in uniform were involved both in Markandal and Naidkhai killings. Only difference is that former incident occurred during night while Naidkhai youth was shot dead in broad day light, he said adding that mere ordering a magisterial probe will not bear any results.
Minister for Higher Education reiterated that he has lost faith in such probes and commissions. Let me make it clear that such commissions are formed to buy time and cool down the public tempers.
Multiple Commissions were formed to probe the innocent killings but results are before us as culprits were never indicted and exposed, Lone said.
It is the high time that my Government either appoints a sitting or retired judge, who will probe this killing. It is my suggestion to the government and rest is upon them, he said.
Pertinently, soon after the killing of Shahgund youth on Friday evening, Deputy Commissioner Bandipore Dr Shah Faisal had ordered a magisterial probe into the incident and had said that Additional Deputy Magistrate would undertake the probe. (CNS)
