Srinagar: At least four youths from twin districts of Shopian and Pulwama in south Kashmir have gone missing from last two weeks, reports said Tuesday.
22-year-old Amir Ahmed Malik, son of Abdul Gaffar Malik of Zainapora and Umer Malik resident of Sugan in Shopain district left their home two weeks ago and have not returned since then, news agency KDC reported Tuesday. Similarly, in neighboring Pulwama district, Shahnawaz Ahmad of Sambora and Umer Khanday of Pampore have reportedly gone missing in similar circumstances.
Quoting sources, the report says that Amir had left his home in Shopian to play cricket with his friend two weeks ago and has not returned home since then. Another missing youth, the report says is a class 11th student, and went missing in the last week of October.
The report quoted an unnamed police officer as saying that the cases were being investigated from all dimensions.
“It is too early to comment if they have joined militant ranks,” the officer said.
The mysterious disappearance of the youth come at a time when police have been declaring that south Kashmir will be soon freed of militancy and the focus will be shifted towards north Kashmir.
