SRINAGAR: Satisfied with the government performance, a senior minister Thursday claimed that despite heavy snowfall, electricity all across Kashmir Valley was restored within 8 hours. The feat he claimed was not possible even in the advanced country like the United State of America.
In dealing with snow furry, Kashmir is much advanced that America. If Americans would witness such a heavy snowfall, there will be power breakdown for at least a week, but in Kashmir, our government performed up to the mark and restored electricity within 8 hours, senior Congress leader and Health Minister Taj Mohiudin told Srinagar based news gathering agency CNS adding that Government worked on priority basis to normalize the situation.
He said that it is not fair to criticize the government when it worked hard to restore electricity and clear the roads. Government is present everywhere and its men faced all odds to relieve the people from snow furry, he said adding that he was present in Srinagar when snow stormed the Valley.
Taj Mohi-u-Din while responding to a query said that there is no natural drainage system in Srinagar city and that is why it witnessed heavy water logging. Srinagar is like a bowl and it lacks natural drainage system. Streets and roads could not be dewatered because there was no electricity. Now electricity has been restored and according pumps will be used to dewater the roads and streets, he said.
Minister said that Kashmir has a vast area and the first priority of the government was to clear the highway and the main roads. I myself visited several areas and was satisfied the way government performed its job, he said. (CNS)
