SRINAGAR: Municipal Committee Anantnag caught a mutton dealer for supplying meat of dead animals to the local markets.
Police sources said that MCA had received an information that a mutton whole sale dealer (Kothdar) from Shirpora Anantnag instead of dumping the carcasses of dead animals, slaughtered them and supplied meat to mutton retailers.
Reports said that the said mutton dealer, who has been identified as Merajudin Ganaie used to import sheep from outside J&K.
An MCA official said that the sheep which died during long journey from Rajasthan were sold after their slaughter and then supplied to local market.
Reports said that MCA team soon after receiving the information, raided his house located at Shirpora, Janglat Mandi Anantnag and caught him red handed slaughtering a dead sheep. The MCA team also found scores of dead sheep inside a truck (HR381618) that was parked outside his house.
MCA team seized the truck and handed over the accused to police. A police official while confirming the arrest of the accused said that they are waiting for the report of MCA and CAPD department.
