Hajan: Clashes erupted in Naidkhai area of District Bandipore Saturday morning after scores of youth resorted to stone pelting and forced shopkeepers to down their shutters. The protestors were alleging that Armed Policemen, Indian Reserve Police personnel and CRPF ransacked their houses in Tengpora Naidkhai and thrashed men and women on Friday evening.
Reports said that people assembled on roads and pelted stones on police and CRPF personnel, however, the timely intervention of police officials and assurances given by them to people normalize the situation.
A resident of Tengpora Naidkhai, Ghulam Nabi Najar told CNS that he was beaten by Armed police personnel to pulp while some policemen snatched Rs 3000 from him outside Armed police camp of 14 Battalion at Hajin.
On Friday after prayers there were stray incidents of stone-pelting after which CRPF and Armed police personnel barged into my house and beat my daughters and wife without any provocation. These men in uniform smashed the windowpanes, broke our gate and locker, however did not decamp with the cash, he said adding that when people protested against this harassment, he was called by top police officials to redress his grievance.
As i reached outside Armed camp, some Armed personnel thrashed me and snatched Rs 3000 without any provocation. I was saved by SDPO and concerned SHO from their wrath, he said.
When contacted SDPO Sumbal Bashir Ahmed refuted these allegations and said that some miscreants tried to disrupt the peace in the area while police exercised maximum restraint to avoid any confrontation. He told CNS that everything was normal in the area.
