Police uses lathi charge and teargas shelling to control situation
Srinagar: Police on Wednesday used batons and fired tear smoke shells after the death of a patient due to the alleged negligence of doctors at a private hospital here triggered violent protest by her relatives.
According to reports, protest broke out at the Shifa Hospital in uptown during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday when a young woman identified as Dilshada of neighboring Batamaloo locality died after doctors conducted a surgery on her for gallstones.
The attendants of the patient, reports said, turned violent and vandalised hospital property and the vehicles parked outside the hospital alleging that the doctors’ negligence caused the death of the woman. The protesters alleged that the woman was operated on despite having an infection.
Quoting witnesses, a report says that the protestors went on rampage damaging the hospital property and forcing the medical and paramedical staff to flee.
The report says that police arrived at the spot and to prevent law and order situation from worsening, used batons and tear smoke shells to disperse the angry protestors.
Meanwhile, hospital authorities refuted the allegations of negligence and said that the woman had developed pancreatic complications which can prove fatal sometimes.
